Maldives lowered internet price nation wide.

In an online event, the government announced 2Mbps as the national minimum throttle speed. The announced changes shows 20-30 percent discount. The domestic fixed broadband packages were introduced with the minimum throttle speed of 2Mbps.

New Packages

Package 1:

MVR 250 packages offers 5Mbps connection with 30GB monthly data allowance, with a throttle speed of 2Mbps.

Package 2:

MVR 500 packages offers 15Mbps connection with 100GB monthly data allowance, with a throttle speed of 5Mbps.

Package 3:

MVR 700 packages offers 25Mbps connection with 200GB monthly data allowance, with a throttle speed of 5Mbps.

Speaking at the event, Telecommunication Minister Ms. Aishath Shauna said, the new changes would solve the issues faced by internet users. She pointed out the importance of setting the national minimum throttle speed. She also said the changes would see a 60-75 percent reduction in internet prices as well as twice the throttle speed than before.

Internet Price change is a presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The changes announced today will take effect from 1st July 2021.
