President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has marked the 6th anniversary of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, a landmark infrastructure project inaugurated on August 30, 2018. Reflecting on the occasion, President Muizzu, who served as the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure during the bridge’s construction, highlighted its significance as a symbol of the strong partnership between the Maldives and China.
In a statement, President Muizzu praised the bridge as a "remarkable feat of engineering" that not only connects the islands of Male', Hulhule' (the airport island), and Hulhumale', but also embodies the enduring mutual trust and shared vision of progress between the two nations. He expressed hope that the bridge would continue to stand as a "beacon of cooperation for generations to come."
The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the largest infrastructure project in Maldivian history, was completed in just over two and a half years. It has since become a vital link between the capital city and key urban and transport hubs, significantly enhancing connectivity and economic activity in the region.
As the Maldives celebrates this milestone, the bridge remains a testament to the collaborative spirit that has driven both countries towards a future of unity and prosperity.
