Torrential rains have inundated the Maldivian capital, Malé, and several other islands, prompting widespread flooding and disruption. The Maldives National Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert across the country, warning of heavy rain and strong winds expected to persist until Saturday.
Severe weather conditions have caused difficulties for flights landing at Velana International Airport, the Maldives' main gateway. Reports indicate that six islands are experiencing severe flooding, with some also affected by wave surges due to the rough seas.
The continuous rain and strong winds over the past two days have left communities battling waterlogged streets and rising water levels. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising the public to exercise caution, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
The Meteorological Center has urged residents to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions as the adverse weather conditions are expected to continue.
