Maldives Police Service has identified the suspects involved in the armed robbery of over USD 130,000 from Bank of Maldives (BML) staff at Velana International Airport early Monday morning.

The suspects have been named as Maazin Moosa (25), Ahmed Raihan Naeem (20), Ibrahim Anoof (24), and Hussein Shahudh (30). According to police, the four men — wearing masks and armed with knives — threatened BML employees who were transporting a cash briefcase from the old terminal to the new terminal when the robbery took place.

The suspects fled the scene on a speedboat, prompting a special police operation that led to their arrest within hours. Police also confirmed the recovery of the speedboat used in the crime.

The Criminal Court has since remanded all four suspects for five days as investigations continue.

Authorities described the incident as one of the major robberies in recent weeks, following the theft of 13 million cigarettes from two containers at the Maldives Ports Limited Hulhumalé International Terminal earlier this month.

Police have not yet revealed further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
