Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed's political movement "Fikurehge Dhirun" joins with the Jumhooree Party for the upcoming Presidential Polls in September. |Representatives of Nasheed met with Jumhooree Party officials earlier tonight to discuss the formation of a joint manifesto for the election.

This move will shake up the political landscape in the Maldives, as Nasheed and his supporters had previously rejected the results of the Maldivian Democratic Party Presidential Primary held in January 2023, accusing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of rigging the vote. Nasheed had publicly critisied and rejected to endorse President Solih.

Observers have noted that a coalition between Nasheed's "Fikurehge Dhirun" and the Jumhooree Party would pose a significant challenge to President Solih's re-election bid. The President's popularity has been on the decline in recent months, with serious allegations of corruptopn and miss use of power.
