Former President Nasheed Honored with 2024 Global Citizen Award

Malé, Maldives – Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed has been named the recipient of the 2024 Global Citizen Award, recognizing his tireless advocacy for climate action and human rights. The prestigious award, presented by Henley & Partners in partnership with the Andan Foundation, was announced during the 18th Global Citizenship Conference in Singapore.

Nasheed, currently the Secretary-General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum representing 70 nations, was honored for his pivotal role in advancing global climate resilience and renewable energy initiatives. As the Maldives’ first democratically elected president, he brought international attention to the plight of vulnerable nations facing climate change impacts.

Henley & Partners Chairman Dr. Christian H. Kaelin commended Nasheed’s dedication, stating, “He embodies the spirit of global citizenship, championing a sustainable future for the most vulnerable.”

The award includes a bespoke sculptural medal, a certificate, and a USD 20,000 monetary prize to support Nasheed’s humanitarian efforts. Previous laureates include global figures tackling issues like human trafficking, disaster relief, and reconciliation.
