Malé, Maldives — The State Electric Company (STELCO) is set to roll out a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and EV motorcycle charging systems across the Maldives. The initiative, which aims to bolster the nation’s shift toward greener transportation and sustainable energy, aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Revealed by STELCO Managing Director Hussein Fahmy in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), this plan is inspired by successful international models, particularly South Korea’s approach to electric vehicle infrastructure. Fahmy shared that STELCO plans to establish one public charging station for every three electric cars, ensuring widespread access to charging points and making the transition to electric vehicles more convenient for Maldivians.

Fahmy also noted that the initiative is a testament to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's leadership in driving the nation's transition toward cleaner energy and greener transportation solutions. STELCO’s move to build this network reflects a broader national effort to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability, positioning the Maldives to embrace cleaner energy solutions.
