Male', Maldives: Maldives Immigration has intensified its efforts to address illegal and undocumented expatriate labor, carrying out extensive raids and inspections across the capital, Male', on August 27, 2024. The operation saw the deployment of over 211 Immigration Officers, who divided the city into 26 zones and organized into 52 groups. Their inspections targeted local businesses, labor quarters, and workplaces frequented by expatriates, checking for valid visas and other necessary documentation.

Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamman Waheed reported that several expatriates attempting to flee were apprehended during the raids. Additionally, those found working at locations other than their registered workplaces were given notices to reregister at their actual job sites. The operation also uncovered cases where expatriates lacked proper documentation, for which they were given an opportunity to complete the necessary processes.

Businesses found missing key documents or procedures were similarly notified to regularize and complete their registration. Immigration authorities have announced that detailed findings from the raids will be released at a later date.

Controller General Shamaan emphasized that these unannounced raids will continue as part of Maldives Immigration's commitment to enforcing immigration laws. Violators of these regulations will face appropriate legal action as the crackdown intensifies.
