Qatari Ambassador and President Muizzu Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Expanding Trade Ties

Malé, Maldives – The Ambassador of Qatar to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Jassim bin Jaber J.B. Al-Sorour, officially presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Monday morning during a formal ceremony at the President’s Office.
In a display of Maldivian tradition, Ambassador Al-Sorour was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a cultural procession known as “Haiykolhu,” accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band. The ceremonial welcome added a touch of pageantry to the occasion, reflecting the importance of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
President Muizzu warmly welcomed Ambassador Al-Sorour and officially accepted his credentials, marking the beginning of his tenure as the Qatari Ambassador to the Maldives. Although Ambassador Al-Sorour is accredited as a non-resident ambassador, residing in Sri Lanka, his appointment highlights the strong diplomatic connection between the two countries.
During their meeting, President Muizzu and Ambassador Al-Sorour discussed ways to strengthen and expand bilateral ties between the Maldives and Qatar. Both leaders emphasized the potential for increased collaboration, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, which are seen as key avenues for mutual benefit.
The discussions are expected to pave the way for future cooperation, reinforcing the diplomatic bridge between the Maldives and Qatar, two countries with a history of strong relations in the region.
