A 45-year-old Bangladeshi man, Jahangiru Alam, has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than MVR 400,000 from beneath the seat of a motorbike parked on Buruzu Magu, one of Malé City’s busiest roads. Maldives Police Service confirmed the arrest and stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Alam, who is married to a Maldivian, was brought before the court on Sunday, where he was remanded for 15 days. Social media discussions have fueled speculation that he may be released soon, but no official statement has been made regarding these claims.

Police have not provided further details as the investigation continues.
