Maldives Police Arrest Five, Including MNDF Soldiers, in Torture and Kidnapping Case

Maldives Police Service has arrested five individuals, including two Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) soldiers, in connection to a shocking case where a man was held hostage and tortured in Male’ for a month. The victim, a 30-year-old Maldivian, was held captive from May 25th to June 25th and subjected to severe abuse, including the severing of his little finger and various burns and bruises.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Shifau revealed that the victim was forced to participate in drug transactions during his captivity. The arrested suspects include:

Ali Saamy, 24, from R. Kandholhudhoo

Ahmed Saif Waheed, 17, from GDh. Gadhdhoo

Mohamed Naushad Hussain, 21, from Th. Thimarafushi

Mohamed Nafaah, 23, from K. Maafushi (MNDF soldier)

Ahmed Zayan, 24, from L. Gan (MNDF soldier)

Four suspects have been remanded, while Nafaah's situation is under further review. Police are investigating the involvement of three minors in the case. The incident is suspected to be linked to a drug transaction, with items related to drug distribution, including scales and empty bags, discovered at two apartments where the victim was held.

The investigation continues as authorities consider further charges against the arrested individuals.
