President Muizzu and PM Modi Outline New Vision for Maldives-India Partnership

President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu delivered a press statement at Hyderabad House, New Delhi, emphasizing India’s key role in the socio-economic and infrastructure development of the Maldives. During the press briefing, Dr. Muizzu expressed deep gratitude for India’s continuous support, specifically acknowledging financial assistance such as T-Bill rollovers and an additional support of INR 30 billion, alongside a $400 million bilateral currency swap agreement.
President Dr. Muizzu stated that he looks forward to concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India, which would boost economic cooperation and facilitate increased Indian investments in the Maldives’ tourism and development sectors. He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration across various areas and emphasized the significance of welcoming more Indian tourists to the Maldives.
The two leaders agreed on a comprehensive document titled "A Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership", which will serve as a roadmap for bilateral cooperation in development, digital transformation, health, energy, and maritime security.
President Muizzu extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the Maldives next year as both nations approach the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations. The President is currently on a five-day state visit to India at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu and is accompanied by First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation.
