Maldives Police Service has arrested five suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a man in Hulhumalé, where the perpetrators demanded ransom from the victim's family. According to police reports, the man was abducted in a car and subjected to physical assault by the suspects before they reached out to his family to demand payment.
The first arrest in the case was made on November 11, 2024, when 37-year-old Tholaal Moosa was detained. The following day, four additional suspects were taken into custody: 34-year-old Husam Ibrahim, 23-year-old Hussein Haikal Niyaz, 36-year-old Adam Shareef, and 26-year-old Ahmed Rishfan. Hulhumalé Magistrate Court has ordered a seven-day remand for all five individuals.
This incident marks the second kidnapping case attended by the Maldives Police within the same week. On November 7, authorities successfully rescued another victim who had been kidnapped by a group of 12 individuals in a Hiyaa Tower residence. All 12 suspects from that case were arrested, and police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The series of kidnappings has raised concerns about public safety and highlighted the need for increased vigilance. The police continue to investigate both cases to ensure justice and prevent further incidents of this nature.
