Maldives and Oman Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Key Agreements

Maldives Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel is on an official visit to Oman from December 10 to 13, at the invitation of Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi. The visit highlights the enduring friendship between the Maldives and Oman, rooted in shared Islamic heritage and values.

As part of the visit, Dr. Khaleel paid a courtesy call on His Highness Sayyed Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs. Minister Khaleel conveyed greetings from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Maldivian people, which were warmly reciprocated by His Highness on behalf of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

The leaders discussed strengthening economic ties, particularly in investment, trade, tourism, and fisheries, to elevate the partnership between the two nations.

During a meeting with his Omani counterpart at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Khaleel reviewed over four decades of Maldives-Oman relations and explored enhancing cooperation in trade, education, and investment. They also discussed convening the first round of political consultations soon.

Two key agreements were signed:

1. Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for holders of Diplomatic, Special, Service, and Official Passports.

2. Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, fostering deeper diplomatic engagement.

Dr. Khaleel expressed gratitude for Oman’s support over the years and reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to stronger bilateral relations. This visit marks a significant step in advancing shared goals and mutual development.
