MMA Launches Research Fund at Inaugural Conference

Malé, Maldives — The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) inaugurated its first-ever Research Conference 2024, under the theme "Advancing Economic Research: Policy and Innovation for a Sustainable Future." The event brought together experts in economics and policy to discuss solutions for critical economic challenges.
The highlight of the event was the launch of the MMA Research Fund, introduced by chief guest Dr. Mahamood Shaugee, Chancellor of Maldives National University. The fund aims to support research addressing pressing economic issues and bridging the gap between academia, policymakers, and practitioners.
MMA Governor Munawar described the fund as a milestone in fostering impactful research. The event also saw the signing of two key MoUs: one with Universiti Islam Selangor for joint research, and another with Dhiraagu to leverage technology for research advancement.
Keynote speaker Dr. Michael Patra, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, provided insights on global monetary policy. Discussions included topics such as fintech, artificial intelligence, and the impacts of climate change on oil-dependent economies.
The conference continues with workshops addressing monetary policy, fiscal cycles, and climate challenges, solidifying MMA’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
