Police Seek Public Assistance in Investigating Major Fire at Housing Ministry Building

Malé, Maldives — The Maldives Police Service has called on the public to assist in their investigation into the fire that devastated the Housing Ministry building on December 12, 2024. The blaze severely damaged three government ministries: the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.

Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Major Crime Investigation Department at 9911099 to support their efforts.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau stated that a team of foreign experts will soon be brought in to aid the investigation, highlighting the complexity and scale of the incident.

“The expertise and additional resources will strengthen our ability to determine the cause of this devastating fire,” the Commissioner said.

The Maldives Police Service has expressed gratitude to the public for their ongoing cooperation and support in ensuring accountability and transparency in such critical matters.

The fire, one of the largest in the country’s recent history, has sparked significant public concern, with authorities emphasizing the importance of community involvement in uncovering the truth behind the incident.
