Visit Maldives Club Launches Global Sports Fishing Competition for 2025

Malé, Maldives — The Visit Maldives Club (VMC) has announced the Burunu Boma Sports Fishing Tournament, a global competition set to take place between April and May 2025. Officially launching on December 20, 2024, at 20:00 hrs, the tournament aims to promote sustainable fishing and elevate the Maldives as a premier destination for sports tourism.

The event, emphasizing the “catch and release” method, highlights the Maldives’ commitment to protecting its marine ecosystems while attracting international fishing enthusiasts and professionals from the tourism industry.

Ahmed Saaif, President of Visit Maldives Club, stated, “This is a major event planned for 2025, promoting sports fishing and showcasing the Maldives’ diverse tourism opportunities. We are grateful for the overwhelming support from industry stakeholders and institutions.”

MMPRC CEO and MD, Ibrahim Shiuree, noted, “This competition is a step towards promoting sustainable fisheries and sports tourism. As the World’s ‘Leading Green Destination,’ the Maldives is committed to sustainable fishing practices, which this event aims to highlight.”

Endorsed by key organizations, including the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Fisheries, MATI, and MATATO, the tournament will offer prizes across various categories, with special recognition for sustainable fishing efforts. Held in the Maldives’ pristine waters, the event aims to position the country as a top global destination for sports tourism.
