Malé, Maldives — Maldives Police Service has revealed that unverified documents were issued by the previous administration for land slots under the Binveriyaa Scheme, leading to multiple allocations for the same plots. The irregularities, flagged by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), were uncovered after several individuals applied for the same slot.
At a press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Shareef disclosed that HDC began verifying documents through the Housing Ministry after noticing the issue. The investigation has so far revealed that unverified documents were submitted by non-applicants or individuals deemed ineligible during the evaluation process.
Among the alleged beneficiaries of the irregular allocations is Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the elder brother of HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed. As the investigation deepens, the government has suspended the HDC board members, including the Managing Director.
The government has assured the public that rightful landowners will not lose their entitlements due to the ongoing probe. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to a transparent and thorough investigation into the matter.
The irregular allocation of land under the Binveriyaa Scheme has sparked public outrage, and police are continuing their inquiries into those responsible for issuing and using fraudulent documents. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
