Three local movie actors and the brother of one of them have been arrested in a drug operation in Vilimale’, with the Criminal Court ordering all four suspects to remain in remand custody for 15 days.

The suspects are actors Ahmed Azmeel, Ismail Jumaih and Mohamed Vishal, along with Azmeel’s brother, Shaahil Mohamed. All four are accused of drug use, sale and trafficking.

At the remand hearing, police told the court that drugs were found openly placed on a table inside the room occupied by the four suspects.

According to the remand order, police forcibly entered the room during the operation. Officers at the scene reported seeing the drugs in plain sight.

Police also stated that the preliminary weight of the seized drugs met the legal threshold for trafficking charges.

Three of the suspects have previous arrest records, while Jumaih does not.

Under the current Drugs Act, those convicted of the relevant offences face life imprisonment extending until death. The revised law also removes the possibility of pardons and parole for such offences.
