Malé, Maldives — Maldives Immigration, in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service, raided several businesses in the Hiyaa Towers area of Hulhumalé Phase 2, apprehending three undocumented expatriate workers. The individuals were found without proper documentation and work visas.
The operation targeted shops, cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and salons as part of broader efforts to address the issue of illegal migrant workers. Maldives Immigration has intensified its crackdown on visa violations, unauthorized businesses, and other breaches of immigration laws.
Over the past 12 months, more than 4,000 expatriates have been deported for violations, including visa breaches, engaging in prostitution, selling alcohol, and operating illegal businesses. These raids, conducted across Malé and various islands, aim to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and uphold public safety.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to addressing the challenges posed by undocumented migrant workers and enforcing the country’s immigration laws rigorously. Further inspections are expected as part of these ongoing efforts.
