Malé, Maldives — Maldives Immigration, in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service, conducted a raid on the Local Market area and Heenaamaage Parking area in Malé City on Wednesday, apprehending 25 undocumented migrant workers. The operation followed direct complaints from the public about the gathering of undocumented workers in these locations.

During the raid, some individuals attempted to flee but were caught and arrested by Immigration officers. Officials also gathered information about migrant workers on vessels docked at the harbor and those working within the local market.

Controller General of Immigration Shamaan Waheed confirmed to the media that over 5,000 undocumented migrant workers have been deported this year. He stated that Immigration aims to double this number in the coming year.

The deported individuals include those found in violation of immigration laws, such as overstaying visas, operating illegal businesses, engaging in prostitution, selling alcohol, and other illicit activities.

The Local Market area and Heenaamaage Parking area are known hotspots for undocumented workers. Immigration authorities have pledged to continue such operations to address violations, ensure compliance with immigration laws, and uphold public safety.
