Hulhumale’, Maldives – A 19-year-old youth remains in critical condition after his motorbike collided with a police patrolling vehicle on Nirolhu Street in Hulhumale’ last Thursday night.

According to police, the accident occurred when the youth, allegedly speeding and driving without a license, crashed into the police vehicle, which was also reportedly speeding. The youth’s family, however, has refuted the claim that his license had been withheld by police a week earlier for reckless driving, demanding evidence to substantiate the allegation.

In a statement, police defended their actions but confirmed that they are investigating the incident, including whether the police vehicle involved had violated any traffic regulations.

The collision has sparked public concern, with calls for transparency and accountability in the investigation. As the youth fights for his life, the incident has reignited discussions about road safety and the conduct of law enforcement on Maldivian roads.
