President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited Gulhi Island on Sunday, announcing 2025 as the “year of homeownership” and committing to a record number of housing projects within a single year. Speaking to residents, he emphasized the administration’s focus on accelerating housing development across the Maldives, including major initiatives beyond the Male’ region.
A centerpiece of the plan is the Rasfannu reclamation project near Gulhi lagoon, which the President described as one of the largest housing efforts undertaken by his government. He noted that the project, once completed, would offer a comprehensive solution to the housing crisis in the region. He also assured that land reclamation and housing efforts in other islands, including the greater Male’ area, would proceed on schedule.
President Muizzu acknowledged that progress in 2024 was hindered by financial constraints inherited from the previous administration but stated that his government had made strides in stabilizing the economy. He pledged to prioritize housing and development projects that directly impact citizens' well-being, ensuring timely payments to contractors and partners to maintain momentum.
The President reiterated his administration’s dedication to fulfilling promises and addressing housing shortages as a key priority. He called on citizens to support these efforts, emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving lasting progress.
