Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Maldives, Calls President Muizzu a 'Trusted Partner of China'

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited the Maldives on Friday, expressing unwavering support for the nation's developmental aspirations. As part of his official trip, Minister Wang paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office, where the leaders discussed strengthening the China-Maldives partnership.
President Dr. Muizzu warmly welcomed Minister Wang Yi, thanking him for China’s longstanding support for the Maldives' development. Reflecting on his state visit to China in January last year, the President described the engagement as pivotal in elevating bilateral relations.
The President emphasized the urgency of advancing infrastructure projects under existing agreements and MOUs, particularly those addressing social housing and road development, which are among the Maldivian people's top priorities. He also highlighted his administration’s efforts to diversify the economy, focusing on agriculture and fisheries, and sought China’s assistance in these critical sectors.
Minister Wang Yi praised President Muizzu’s vision for sustainable development and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives. He described the President as a trusted partner and friend of China. Minister Wang assured that China would facilitate the acceleration of pending development projects, underscoring the Maldives’ adherence to the One-China Principle as a cornerstone of their bilateral cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both leaders pledging to strengthen the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and collaborate on multilateral platforms for mutual prosperity. Minister Wang’s visit further solidifies the strong and cooperative ties between the two nations.
