Mumbai Police have arrested Mohammad Alian, also known as BJ, in Thane for allegedly stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence on January 16. The arrest took place at a labour camp near a metro construction site early Sunday.
Alian, who worked at a Mumbai pub under the alias Vijay Das, confessed to the crime during questioning. Police are investigating his nationality to determine if he is an Indian or a Bangladeshi national using a fake identity.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday during a burglary attempt at Khan’s home. The suspect reportedly entered the room of Khan’s younger son, Jehangir (Jeh), before being confronted by the actor, who sustained injuries during the scuffle.
Mumbai Police launched an extensive manhunt after the incident, circulating CCTV images of the suspect. Footage showed Alian descending the stairs of Khan’s residence and later at Dadar railway station.
In addition to Alian’s arrest, authorities detained a suspect in Chhattisgarh’s Durg after he was found on a train, but his connection to the case is unclear. Another individual detained in Madhya Pradesh was determined to be unrelated to the attack.
Alian has been taken to Bandra for further questioning and will be presented in court for police remand.
Doctors at Lilavati Hospital have reported that Saif Ali Khan is recovering well. Initially admitted to the ICU, the actor has since been moved to a general ward, is on a normal diet, and has begun walking. He is expected to make a full recovery soon.
Police continue to investigate the attacker’s motives and background while increasing security in the area to prevent similar incidents.
