Malé – President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has merged the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism, forming the new Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Thoriq Ibrahim has been appointed as the Minister to lead the newly created ministry.
The decision comes following the dismissal of former Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal on Tuesday.
Thoriq Ibrahim took his oath of office before Chief Justice Uz Ahmed Muthasim Adnan in a ceremony held at the President’s Office. After the oath, President Muizzu formally presented him with his ministerial appointment letter.
Following the appointment, President Muizzu held a meeting with Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, emphasizing the importance of an integrated approach to tourism and environmental conservation. The President highlighted the need to promote the Maldives by showcasing its natural heritage alongside its tourism sector, ensuring sustainable development.
The restructuring reflects the government’s efforts to align tourism promotion with environmental preservation, key pillars of the Maldivian economy.
