President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Hussain Shaheedh as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Maldives. The appointment, made under the authority granted by Article 148(a) of the Constitution, was formalized in a ceremony at the President’s Office on Wednesday afternoon.
Uz Hussain Shaheedh took his oath of office before Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujune Muhammad, and President Muizzu presented him with the official appointment letter during the event.
A highly experienced legal professional, Uz Hussain Shaheedh previously served as the Chief Judge of the High Court and as a Judge at the Criminal Court. He holds a Master’s in Islamic Judicial Science, Sharia Policy, and Jurisprudence and Law, LLB.
His appointment strengthens the Supreme Court bench as the judiciary continues efforts to uphold justice and the rule of law in the Maldives. His appointment follows the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Husnu Suood, who stepped down after the Judicial Service Commission launched an investigation into a disciplinary issue against him.
