The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into allegations that immigration officials have been accepting bribes and exploiting migrant workers by abusing their authority.

According to police, officials were illegally using their power for personal gain. Acting on reports, police raided a house on March 20, 2025, and arrested three individuals. However, the identities of those arrested have not yet been disclosed.

Meanwhile, media reports have confirmed that Controller General of Immigration, Mohamed Shammaan Waheed, was dismissed from his post on March 20. There has been no official government statement regarding his dismissal, and it remains unclear whether he was among those arrested or if his removal is linked to the police investigation into immigration officials.

Authorities have not provided further details, and the investigation is ongoing.
