The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) held its 2025 convocation ceremony on Saturday night, celebrating the graduation of over 900 students across various disciplines in Islamic studies and related fields.

The ceremony, held in Malé, was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who presented certificates and medals to top-ranking graduates. In his remarks, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening IUM, stating that the university will remain a key focus in advancing Islamic education nationwide.

Founded as the College of Islamic Studies (Kulliyah Al-Dhirasaathil Islamiyah), the institution became a full-fledged higher education body in 2004 and was later granted university status in 2015. IUM remains the Maldives’ premier Islamic higher education institution, offering diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs in Shariah, Islamic finance, Arabic, education, and related disciplines.

The university’s mission is to promote Islamic knowledge and values while contributing to national development through academic excellence and research. IUM has steadily expanded its academic offerings and partnerships, aiming to become a regional leader in Islamic education.

This year’s graduation reflects the growing demand for Islamic higher education in the Maldives, and the university's pivotal role in producing professionals grounded in both religious and academic scholarship.
