National Day Honour: Uz Ahmed Shakir Receives Prestigious ODRDD

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Dhiyamigili Dynasty (ODRDD) on veteran public servant, writer and cultural figure Uz ‘Kashima’ Ahmed Shakir.

The honour was presented during the official National Day ceremony in Haa. Utheemu today, recognising his more than four decades of public service and significant contributions to Maldivian literature, performing arts, history and education.

Uz Ahmed Shakir began his public service in 1969 and held several senior positions, including at the Ministry of Transport and Shipping and the National Centre for Linguistic and Historical Research. He later served as a lecturer and Senior Curriculum Developer at Villa College and was a Member of Parliament.

A prominent figure in Dhivehi literature and performing arts, he contributed to numerous stage productions, films and television dramas, while also authoring several major works on Maldivian history, law, currency and Islamic heritage.

His contributions have previously been recognised with the National Award of Recognition, Silver Pen for the Service of Journalism, National Award of Honour for historical writing, and the Hassan Thaajuddeen Award.

At 69, Uz Ahmed Shakir also earned a Master of Shariah degree. He currently serves as a member of the Dhivehi Gaumiyyathuge Isvaru in the field of history and chairs the National Awards Committee.
