Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police have released CCTV footage and the identities of all nine individuals involved in a party that preceded the fall of 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from the ninth floor of a building in Malé. The developments come amid nationwide protests and growing public concern over political interference in the case.
Yumnu, who remains in critical condition, is seen in the footage with 21-year-old Raud Mohamed Zilaal. The pair are captured entering the building, appearing heavily intoxicated, roaming the stairwell, and engaging in sexual activity. Police say both tested positive for cannabis, but believe additional substances may have been involved given the level of intoxication observed in the footage.
During a detailed media briefing, police presented their account of how the fall occurred and ruled out foul play, stating that no one else was involved. However, the footage appears to show Raud and Yumnu entering an apartment on the 7th floor—contradicting police claims that they did not access any unit. The decision to screen footage containing intimate scenes during the public briefing has drawn sharp criticism.
The individuals identified as attending the party are:
1. Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed
2. Raud Mohamed Zilaal
3. Aishath Layalee Iqbal
4. Aminath Junaina Jamsheed
5. Yoosuf Ahmed Akram - Nephew of Minister Ameen
6. Yoosuf Yassaar Abdul Gafooru (Son of Senior Foreign Service Official)
7. Hussein Hamees Ali
8. Ijaaz Jaiz
9. Izdhiyaan Mohamed Maumoon – Under Secretary at the President’s Office (Nephew of Minister Ameen)
The group includes two nephews of Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen, the son of a senior Foreign Service official, and Izdhiyaan, who has since been dismissed. Raud’s brother, Daud Ahmed—also an Under Secretary at the President’s Office—has been suspended and removed from the Presidential Youth Advisory Board after public pressure intensified.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that justice will be served without bias, stating that neither political position nor family ties will influence the enforcement of the law. Despite this, public skepticism continues as calls for transparency and accountability grow louder.
