Maldives Police Service has arrested two local men in connection with the grooming, exploitation and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.

The arrests were made during an operation carried out by the Family and Child Protection Department, in collaboration with the Crime Intelligence Department and the relevant Atoll Police Station.

Police identified the suspects as Ali Hassan, 44, and Mohamed Ihusan, 21. Ali Hassan was arrested on 24 December and has been in remand custody since then. Mohamed Ihusan was arrested on 3 February and has also been remanded.

According to police, the two suspects are accused of grooming, exploiting and sexually assaulting the minor. The case remains under investigation.

Police stated that special attention is being given to such serious crimes involving children, and assured that they are working closely with relevant authorities to ensure those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
