Maldives Police Service has arrested six individuals in a major counter-narcotics operation that resulted in the seizure of more than 2 kilograms of illegal drugs, cash, and items containing cannabis derivatives.

According to police, the operation was carried out on the 14th and 15th of May based on intelligence received by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence Unit. A total of seven locations in Male’ City and Hulhumale’ were searched during the operation.

The suspects arrested in the operation have been identified as:

Hassan Ali, 26

Mohamed Aleesh Ahmed, 28

Waleedh Mohamed, 26

Jailam Mohamed Zaki, 28

Shayaan Ismail Waheedh, 18

Maisham Maahir, 21

During the raids, police recovered approximately 1,943.76 grams of drugs, including methamphetamine and cannabis. In addition to the narcotics, officers also seized cannabis-infused products such as moonshine drinks and vape cartridges resembling nicotine products.

Other items confiscated include MVR 90,000 in cash, USD 3,605, six mobile phones, and two laptops.

Police confirmed that suspects have been remanded in custody for 15 days by the court as investigations continue.
