Maldives Immigration, in collaboration with Maldives Police Service, launched a major operation in Addu City targeting undocumented migrant workers and visa regulation violators. The operation, named Operation Hamamagu, saw the participation of over 54 immigration officers and 64 police personnel.
Several businesses and local establishments across Addu City were inspected during the raids. Migrant workers without proper documentation were apprehended, with authorities confirming that further legal procedures are underway.
Speaking exclusively to Sukun, Senior Immigration Officer Ahmed Mujthaba revealed that while many migrant workers in Addu City possess valid visas, the majority are working in violation of immigration regulations. “Most are not employed at the sites or for the employers registered under their work permits,” he explained.
Operation Hamamagu is part of a broader government effort to address the growing issue of undocumented migrant workers in the Maldives. Maldives Immigration has been conducting similar operations across multiple islands, targeting individuals and employers who breach visa conditions and immigration laws.
Authorities have confirmed that such raids will continue in other islands in the coming weeks as part of sustained enforcement efforts.
