Maldives Wins Top Honours at World Travel Awards Indian Ocean Category 2025

The Maldives has once again solidified its position as a global tourism leader by securing two prestigious titles at the 2025 World Travel Awards (WTA) Indian Ocean Category. The accolades were announced at the WTA Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held at the Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Representing the country at the event, CEO and Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, accepted the awards on behalf of the nation.

The Maldives was named:

- Indian Ocean's Leading Destination 2025 – a title the country has now won for six consecutive years since 2020.

- Indian Ocean's Leading Green Destination 2025 – for the second consecutive year.

“These accolades are incredibly significant for the Maldives tourism industry,” said Mr. Shiuree. “They reaffirm our nation’s commitment to offering unforgettable experiences and highlight our consistent efforts in sustainable tourism and destination promotion.”

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are among the most prestigious recognitions in the global travel and tourism industry, celebrating excellence across all sectors.
