Malé, Maldives – A tragic road accident in Malé City on Wednesday night claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy and left two others critically injured, including a pedestrian who was hit while crossing the road.

The victim has been identified as Alsan Mohamed, the only child of renowned local singers Mohamed Abdul Ganee and Mariyam Ashfa. Alsan was reportedly riding a motorcycle at high speed with a 16-year-old passenger when the accident occurred.

According to police, the motorbike struck a 40-year-old jogger who was attempting to cross the road at a zebra crossing. The impact caused the motorcycle to crash into a moving pickup, with the bike nearly sliding underneath the vehicle. The motorbike sustained severe damage, as did the pickup involved.

All three individuals—the two teenagers on the motorbike and the pedestrian—were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Alsan later succumbed to his injuries. The other two remain under intensive care.

Police have confirmed that both Alsan and the 16-year-old were underage and not licensed to drive. The incident has sparked widespread concern on social media, especially as video footage of the crash is being circulated online.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, including how the underage boys obtained and operated the vehicle.

This is the latest in a string of road accidents involving reckless driving and underage riders in the capital, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement and public awareness.
