President Xi Jinping Congratulates Maldives on 60th Independence Anniversary

Malé, Maldives – On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence, President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China sent a congratulatory message to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on July 26, extending warm wishes on behalf of the Chinese government and people.
In his message, President Xi expressed sincere congratulations to the Maldivian government and people, noting the enduring friendship and long-standing cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted the healthy and stable development of China-Maldives relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, calling the partnership a model of mutual respect and benefit between countries of different sizes.
President Xi also recalled the successful state visit of President Muizzu to China in January 2024, during which both leaders held cordial discussions and reached broad consensus on deepening bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and advancing the vision of building a China-Maldives community with a shared future.
On the same day, China’s Foreign Minister and Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, H.E. Wang Yi, also sent a congratulatory message to Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel.
The messages underscore China’s continued engagement with the Maldives and its support for further enhancing bilateral ties on the occasion of this national milestone.
