President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, arrived in the Maldives on Monday morning for a two-day state visit, marking his first official visit to the country since assuming office in September 2024.
President Dissanayake was welcomed at Velana International Airport by Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, along with cabinet ministers and senior government officials. The state visit comes as the Maldives and Sri Lanka celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, established on 26 July 1965.
During the visit, President Muizzu and President Dissanayake will hold official talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of cooperation. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding collaboration in trade, tourism, education, and regional security.
President Dissanayake’s visit underscores the enduring relationship between the two neighbouring island nations and reflects a shared commitment to deepening ties based on mutual respect and benefit.
