President of Maldives Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held official talks on Monday at the President’s Office, reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations.
President Muizzu highlighted the 60-year diplomatic relationship and strong people-to-people ties, noting the valuable contribution of the Sri Lankan workforce to the Maldives’ development. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as education, capacity building, climate action, fisheries, agriculture, maritime safety, air connectivity, youth development, and sports.
Following the talks, both leaders witnessed the signing of two major agreements. The first was a Memorandum of Understanding on Diplomatic Training and Exchange of Information, signed between the Maldives’ Foreign Service Institute (FOSIM) and Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI).
The second, a Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, aims to enhance legal collaboration in investigations, prosecutions, and the exchange of evidence.
The agreements underscore both countries’ commitment to strengthening ties in diplomacy and legal affairs, marking a significant step forward in Maldives–Sri Lanka relations.
