President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has begun a tour of 13 inhabited islands in Baa Atoll, with visits to five islands on the first day.

His first stop was Dharavandhoo, where he was greeted by residents. He then travelled to Kamadhoo, becoming the first president to visit the island in over a decade. In Kamadhoo, President Muizzu inaugurated a new Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM and met with the island council, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and residents.

The third stop was Kudarikilu, where the president opened another BML ATM and attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new building at the island’s health centre.

In Kendhoo, residents gathered at the harbour to welcome him despite the island council opposing the visit. There, the president inaugurated the island’s water and sewerage system and launched new ATM services.

The day concluded in Eydhafushi, the atoll capital, where President Muizzu received a large welcome. He pledged to continue development projects in the island.

At each stop, the president met with local councils, WDCs and residents to discuss their needs and concerns. Speaking during the tour, he said his philosophy was to meet communities in person rather than summoning councils to the capital.

The president’s tour of Baa Atoll will conclude on Thursday.
