A woman from Laamu Fonadhoo has been accused of forging a lawyer’s licence and working as a Legal Officer at Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
The Bar Council on Friday confirmed that the woman, identified as Fathimath Thooba Abdulla, is not a registered lawyer and that the licence she submitted was fake. The Council said the matter has been reported to police for investigation.
According to sources, Thooba allegedly used a forged Department of Judicial Administration seal and the signature of a retired Supreme Court judge to create the licence. Social media users have also claimed she secured the MPL post through a recommendation from Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who is from the same island.
The forgery came to light when MPL management requested her licence to process a certificate allowance and discovered that her name was missing from the official list of registered lawyers.
Police have not yet commented on the case.
