Dr Furqan Ibrahim has been awarded the Engineer of the Year Award 2026, the top individual honour presented at the inaugural Engineers’ Award ceremony held this evening at Barceló Nasandhura.

The ceremony, presided over by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, recognised engineers for their contributions to national development and excellence in the engineering profession.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to three distinguished engineers — Abdul Shakoor Solih, and posthumously, Ahmed Mahureen and Mohamed Rasheed.

Other awards presented during the ceremony included the Sustainability Champion Award, Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award, Young Engineer Award, Student Innovator Award, Community Impact Award, and Women in Engineering Award.

The Engineers’ Award was introduced as a national recognition of the contribution of Maldivian engineers to the country’s development and the advancement of the engineering sector.
