Television Maldives (TVM) presenter Inaayath Ali has been arrested in a police anti-drug operation in Malé City.

Police confirmed that Inaayath was taken into custody on 25 September during raids on two houses in the capital, following intelligence reports that the locations were being used for drug consumption and sales.

Two other individuals — siblings Mohamed Aaish Ahmed and Aminath Ihliyeen Ahmed — were also arrested in the operation. All three are accused of using and selling drugs.

The Criminal Court has remanded Inaayath and Ihliyeen in custody for seven days, while Aaish was remanded for 10 days.

Inaayath, a long-serving presenter at the state broadcaster, has worked with TVM for more than a decade and is well known for her role in state media programming.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
