Malé, Maldives — The new High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, His Excellency Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, officially presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

High Commissioner Hassen was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional Haiykolhu procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

President Muizzu formally accepted the credentials and welcomed Hassen as Sri Lanka’s new representative to the Maldives. Following the ceremony, the two officials discussed areas of mutual interest, including trade, economic cooperation, and climate change.

They also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties and explored ways to expand collaboration between the two neighboring nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were first established on July 26, 1965, and the two countries have maintained close and friendly ties for nearly six decades.
