Bangladesh’s New Envoy Presents Credentials to President Muizzu, Pledges Stronger Ties

Malé, Maldives — The new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Dr Md Nazmul Islam, presented his Letter of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this afternoon at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

High Commissioner Islam was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional Haiykolhu procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

Following the ceremony, President Muizzu and High Commissioner Islam reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Bangladesh, underscoring the deep people-to-people connections and mutual support that have defined relations over the decades.

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in agriculture, economic development, higher education, trade, and investment. Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two nations.

The Maldives and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations on 22 September 1978.
