Maldives Police have revealed the identities of five individuals arrested from Addu City as part of the nationwide anti-drug crackdown, Operation Alimagu — describing them as major drug lords operating in the southern region.
The suspects, believed to be leaders of a drug trafficking network, are:
Ali Nadheem, 30
Haafiz Fauzy, 31
Ibrahim Siraaj, 43
Hassan Alfaaf, 28
Ameen Mohamed, 23
According to police, the investigation into this network began in March and involves allegations of large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering. Authorities say that over the past five years, more than MVR 19 million has circulated through accounts linked to the suspects.
The Criminal Court has remanded Nadheem, Haafiz, and Siraaj for 30 days, while Alfaaf and Ameen have been remanded for 5 days pending further investigation.
Police confirmed that 119 people have been arrested so far under Operation Alimagu, with over 36 individuals already remanded by the courts. The operation is being carried out simultaneously across multiple islands, leading to several arrests nationwide.
Authorities say the operation will continue as part of wider efforts to dismantle drug networks and curb trafficking across the Maldives.
