Chinese NPC Vice Chairman Pays Courtesy Call on President Muizzu

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, Wang Dongming, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday morning at the President’s Office.

During the meeting, President Muizzu conveyed his appreciation to Chinese President Xi Jinping for China’s continued support to the Maldives, noting that Chinese assistance has contributed to the country’s economic and social development. He reiterated the Maldivian government’s intention to further strengthen relations with China across multiple sectors, citing mutual trust and long-standing ties between the two countries.

Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding existing partnerships. Areas highlighted included housing and infrastructure development, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology and trade. Both sides also reviewed the progress of agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during President Muizzu’s recent visits to China, expressing satisfaction with the implementation of ongoing projects.

Wang acknowledged the close relations between the Maldives and China and said the current visit aimed to deepen cooperation for the benefit of both countries. He reiterated China’s support for the Maldives’ development priorities and its commitment to advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening Maldives–China relations and pursuing cooperation that delivers tangible outcomes.

Wang was accompanied by a senior delegation from China’s National People’s Congress.
