History in Berlin: President Muizzu Begins Landmark Official Visit to Germany

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is on an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, marking a historic milestone in Maldives–Germany relations.
He was accorded a formal state welcome today at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the German President, where he was received by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The two Presidents inspected the Guard of Honour, following which members of the Maldivian delegation and senior German officials were introduced. President Muizzu also signed the Visitors’ Book and posed for an official photograph with President Steinmeier.
The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, adding special significance to the occasion. Notably, this marks the first official visit by a Maldivian President at the invitation of the President of Germany.
During the visit, official talks were held at Schloss Bellevue, led by President Muizzu and President Steinmeier, with senior government representatives from both countries in attendance. Discussions focused on strengthening and diversifying cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral fronts, with emphasis on deeper high-level engagement and future formal agreements.
President Muizzu’s visit, taking place from 9 to 13 February 2026, reflects the growing partnership between the Maldives and Germany, and a shared commitment to expanding cooperation in the years ahead.
