On the quiet island of Rinbudhoo, the call to prayer from the island mosque carries a voice that has been inspiring many.
At just 21 years old, Hussein Eeman Ameeg serves as the imam of the Rinbudhoo Island Mosque, making him one of the youngest permanent imams in the Maldives.
During our recent visit to the island, it was Eeman’s call for prayer that first caught our attention. Calm, clear and confident, it reflected the dedication he has for the role he now carries every day.
Eeman says his journey began while he was studying for his A-Levels in Kudahuvadhoo. During those school years, he often led prayers in many of the mosques on the island. What started as an opportunity soon turned into a calling.
After completing Grade 12, Eeman returned to his home island of Rinbudhoo and began serving the community as a temporary imam. In 2024, he was officially appointed as the island’s permanent imam — becoming the youngest to hold the position. Since then, Eeman has been leading the five daily prayers at the mosque, serving his community with quiet dedication and consistency.
Despite his young age, those who know him say his commitment to faith and service is admirable.
Eeman also has a message for young people. He reminds them that life in this world is temporary, and that when a person dies, only their deeds accompany them. His advice to the youth is simple: use your younger years to learn about the religion, strengthen faith, and do good deeds that will last beyond this life.
