Five Bangladeshi workers have died after a fire broke out in their accommodation block on Dhigurah.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the incident was reported during the early hours of Friday morning. Authorities said five Bangladeshi nationals died in the fire, while two others were reportedly severely burned.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the fire may have started due to a gas leak in the workers’ accommodation block. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed.

Police said a special investigation team has been deployed to the island to investigate the incident and determine how the fire started.

The accommodation block where the workers were staying was completely destroyed in the blaze.

Dhigurah is a well-known local tourism island in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, popular for its guesthouses and local tourism activities. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
